If you liked the flavor of Top Gun, you will love this military action thriller. I read The Tupi Field and really didn’t know what to expect. To my surprise and delight, it was a kick ass novel for a first time writer.
It starts out with a Chinese missile fired at long range from a stealth jet at one of the Marine pilots flying an F/A-18 Hornet. He beats the missile after it runs out of propellant trying to follow his juking. But it gives a close up look at modern aerial combat, and the inventive way of using the F-35 for its 360-degree infra-red search and track system as a complement to the Hornet. See more
The Tupi Field has lots of action in the air and in the hotel rooms!!! Ron’s characters are well-developed, interesting, exciting and fun. This futuristic view of the world in the as we run out of energy and start fighting over what’s left is sobering and scary. The jet and weapons technology classes that the pilots attend in the middle of the book are pretty deep for the average person, so you may find yourself skimming over those pages so you can get back to the actual battles, and the steamy relationships !!! Nice job Ron.
